3D-SHAPER® The 3D beyond DXA examinations

Introducing 3D-SHAPER® into clinical practice and trials allows physicians and researchers to benefit from both trabecular and cortical bone measurements as well as 3D images, from a standard dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan, with no additional radiation to the patient.

3D-SHAPER® is a software solution that incorporates a model-based algorithm to analyze the bone in 3D from a standard DXA scan. It allows physicians to visualize, measure and monitor both the cortical and trabecular compartments. Assessing the cortical and trabecular density after a DXA examination can help physicians to better understand patients’ bone health and fragility areas as well as monitor response to pharmacological treatments.

3D-SHAPER® analyses DXA scans automatically to provide a comprehensive report and allow physicians to benefit from a QCT-like 3D analysis of patients’ cortical and trabecular bone, with no additional examination time or radiation dose.
3D-SHAPER® is available in clinical routine as well as retrospectively to ease bone change monitoring at individual level.

3D-SHAPER®

3D DXA Innovative Technology

The algorithm embedded into 3D-SHAPER® software registers a bone 3D model, created from a population database of quantitative computed tomography (QCT) images, onto the DXA scan of the patient, resulting in a patient-specific shape and density 3D model. The cortex and trabecular bone are segmented, and the cortical surface bone mineral density (BMD) and the trabecular volumetric BMD are computed at the total femur region of interest. The accuracy of 3D-SHAPER® measurements was validated in comparison with QCT .

3D-SHAPER® (3D-DXA technology)- How To get 3D from 2D

Overview

Discover 3D-SHAPER® embedded technology, 3D-DXA, that enables one to generate a patient-specific 3D model of the hip from a standard 2D DXA scan, and perform measurements of both cortical and trabecular bone density.

3D-DXA algorithms-based technology relies on a population database of QCT scans, to create a shape and density 3D model, that is then registered onto a patient hip DXA scan. In a second step, the cortex is segmented in order to separate cortical from trabecular bone. This provides a patient-specific 3D model of the hip and facilitates the performance specific cortical and trabecular bone measurements.

3D-SHAPER® is a useful imaging solution to assist researchers and physicians in the assessment of bone health and in monitoring individual response to treatment, complementing existing techniques, with no addition of radiation to the patient.
